New Zealand billionaire brothers Nick and Mat Mowbray, founders of toy company Zuru, (think Bunch O Ballons) are buying burned-out lots in Malibu Beach to build AI-designed, prefabricated homes manufactured in China. The project aims to demonstrate Zuru Tech’s automated and cost-effective construction solutions, with homes designed in Italy, built robotically in China, and assembled in Malibu. The brothers acquired at least nine initial lots for $65 million, with plans to expand their purchase and help redevelop the fire-ravaged coastline.
